NAMIC Leadership Seminar

The NAMIC Leadership Seminar is a professional development program created specifically to transform high-potential middle managers of color in the communications industry into effective leaders.

This two-day program integrates theoretical knowledge with participants’ own experiences to generate powerful insights about leadership. Participants will have the opportunity to create a personalized blueprint for becoming successful, high-impact leaders with enhanced value to their organizations and with a more enlightened awareness of and confidence in their own potential.

Modeled after our prestigious Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP) at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management, the NAMIC Leadership Seminar is designed to:

  • Assist directors with limited experience, managers, and supervisors by placing a strong emphasis on analyzing different leadership styles and achieving results through team leadership
  • Help participants recognize and tap into the power of feedback and mentoring as developmental tools
  • Create an environment for career design and meaningful self-assessment
  • Keep participants passionate about their work and involved in the communications industry, and facilitate their movement through the pipeline into positions of increasing influence, scope, and visibility

A key component of the NAMIC Leadership Seminar - made possible by the generous support of The Walter Kaitz Foundation - is the focus on the individual in order to determine his/her strengths and developmental needs.

Program Overview

Continuous learning and leadership development are important for all professionals. While the core lessons that need to be acquired and reinforced are the same regardless of one’s race or gender, how the information is internalized and then converted into productive behavior may be a function of an individual’s culture and background.

The NAMIC Leadership Seminar brings together top academics and practitioners from across the country (many of whom serve on the NAMIC ELDP faculty) to provide a leadership development experience for professionals of color who are still in the early stages of their management careers. The program is designed to increase participants’ effectiveness at work and strengthen self-awareness and strategic career planning, while taking into account the uniqueness of cultural context.

The two-day NAMIC Leadership Seminar is offered in local markets throughout the country. A maximum of 40 applicants from the communications industry will be selected for each session.
