Look Who’s Talking Again…CNN Anchor Tony Harris, returns to the Annual NAMIC Conference on Monday, September 15th to moderate a Town Hall Meeting on Diversity. Eight key industry leaders will join DiversityInc’s Luke Visconti in a spirited, interactive conversation fueled by the results of NAMIC’s 2008 survey, “A Look Toward Advancement: Multi-ethnic Employment in the Communications Industry.”
Does your company’s demographic composition mirror that of the shifting U.S. demographics? According to the new census report, the working-age population is projected to become more than 50 percent minority in 2039. NAMIC’s Diversity in Communications Career Expo is an ideal opportunity for companies to access a diverse talent pool and candidates to diversify their workforce.
The Career Expo takes place Tuesday, September 16. It’s FREE and open to the general public as well as all Annual NAMIC Conference attendees. Click here to register.

Membership Spotlight
Member of the Month: Stacy Kline
How long have you been a NAMIC member? Three years
Why did you decide to join NAMIC? As a member of Time Warner Cable’s Diversity Council, we had the opportunity to meet with a representative from the NAMIC National Office. What we learned about the organization was very exciting. I joined NAMIC in 2005 as a member of the NAMIC-Atlanta Chapter. I quickly realized that being in South Carolina, the relationship was not the most convenient and began working with a group of people to form what is now the NAMIC-Carolinas Chapter.
What is the most valuable benefit of being a NAMIC member? Education about the industry is the most valuable thing to me. I was new to the communications industry when I joined in 2005 and being actively involved in the chapter and gaining some priceless contacts brought me up to speed with what was up and coming in our world.
How are you involved with/engaged in NAMIC? I am currently the President for the NAMIC-Carolinas Chapter and have also been the Secretary. I have participated in the L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship program at both the National and Regional levels. I attend the Annual NAMIC Conference every year in New York (by far the best conference I have ever attended and it gets better each year). I also attend the Chapter Leadership Forum each year.
Tell us a little about your position at Time Warner Cable? I am the Director of Human Resources for the East side of South Carolina. I am located in Myrtle Beach and have 18 offices spanning the coast. I have been with the company for four years.
What lead you to seek a career in the cable/communication industry? I made the move from Florida to South Carolina in 2004 and was interested in the next great career opportunity. I had three years of Human Resources experience under my belt and Time Warner Cable made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. The industry was new to me and seemed to be exciting and fun.
How has the industry evolved since you entered it? This is one of the things I enjoy most about our industry, it is constantly changing. We are always looking for ways to better serve our customers and employees. This industry is very competitive and creative.
What’s the one thing about you that’s not on your resume that you are willing to share with other members of NAMIC? I love to sing and know the words to most songs. Watch for me on Don’t Forget the Lyrics!
Favorite Quote or Personal Motto: Laugh! Life is way too short and unpredictable to take so seriously.
